WHY IS A SHADE CLOTH SO POPULAR?
The garden is increasingly there to enjoy as much as possible. That, of course, was always the intention. We warmly welcome it. Also because the more you enjoy it, the less you mind maintaining the garden. A shade cloth strengthens the bond with your garden. A shade cloth makes it possible to enjoy the outdoors even more often. Even when the sun shines too much and too hard!
In addition to the handy application options of the shade cloth, the average size of the Dutch garden also plays a role. Previously there was often room for a second terrace in the shade and also large trees. Now there is often only one terrace where you want to be able to enjoy in all weather conditions.
A GARDEN SHOULD BE A UNIT
The coherence of the individual garden elements is very important. A path should not just be stuck to a terrace. If the path continues a bit into the terrace, it looks a lot nicer. A water element integrated into a terrace is also nicer to look at than an element that appears to be pushed against the terrace.
The more that each part of the garden is connected to the other, the more beautiful and cozy the garden radiates. We say this because when placing a shade cloth, it is simply necessary to look at the relationship between the shade cloth and the entire garden.
THE CHOICE OF SHADE CLOTH IS DETERMINED BY THE TERRACE
In 90% of the cases, the location and size of the terrace has consequences for the way in which the shade cloth is placed. We think that’s a shame, because if the terrace is not cozy, it won’t suddenly become cozy with a shade cloth. When making a garden design, the location, shape and coziness of the terrace must already be determined. We say, for example, that if you sit on the terrace and extend your arms, you should be able to touch the plants. We have even more design tips for you.
It is therefore not so easy in an existing garden if your terrace is not (yet) cozy. We also understand that you are not going to change your terrace because you want to place a shade cloth. Even then, you still have to think about the link between the terrace and the shade cloth, and you have to look for added value for both the terrace and the cloth.
THINK ABOUT HOW YOU CAN USE THE ELEMENTS ALREADY PRESENT
Matching posts can be supplied with each shade cloth setup . In practice, these posts are placed just outside the terrace. Piles can often also be saved by using an existing wall or tree. At such a moment you are already working on creating a better cohesion in your garden.
By already thinking about this coherence in the design phase, you can place or design the pergola in such a way that a combination of mat and shade cloth is always possible. The pergola is therefore also a popular element, but remember that the main function of the pergola is when it comes to placement. Only then does the positive side effect of the combination with a shade cloth count.
THE ROLE OF A PERGOLA
The main function of a pergola is to make connections. For example, the pergola can connect the house with the garden house or roof, but also a hedge with a terrace and the garden wall with a garden fence. A pergola often gives a garden a kind of imaginary ceiling. The beam network at height can also be the basis for both horizontal and vertical vegetation. You can use metal concrete foundation mats for this, but you can also tension a few simple wires. Custom-made shade cloths can of course also be hung from the beams. With a vertical suspension, a windshield is created.
If you don’t have a pergola yet and you are thinking of a kind of shade roof in the form of a pergola, then think about how you can use the construction to be built wider than a real pergola (with connecting function). For more pergola info, visit:

THINK ABOUT THE PLACEMENT OF THE SHADE CLOTH POSTS
Perhaps our attention to coherence sounds a bit exaggerated. But it just makes your garden so much nicer that we take every opportunity to draw attention to it. An empty post is never fun; not at all without a cloth. It is less bad if the post is just in a border, in a hedge block or even hedge. Sometimes you only need a little more thread and fabric.

THE CLOTH DIFFERENCES
- Shade cloth with curved sides
A shade cloth with curved sides is extremely suitable for creating shade in an independent place in your garden or on your roof terrace. It’s only stuck at the corners. You use a wall or set independent posts.
- Shade cloth with straight sides
A cloth with which you create the most shade in a rectangular frame or between two walls. The cloth is attached all around with eyes.
- Harmonica fabric
A perfect fabric if you want more sun or more shade on occasion. You can hang it in a frame but also between two walls. The cloth is guided along tensioned steel wires.
- Wind or privacy cloth
It offers you protection against the wind, but also against privacy.
WHICH QUESTIONS INFLUENCE YOU WHEN CHOOSING YOUR SHADE CLOTH:
- Do you want full shade or also some sun?
- Does the fabric have to be water-resistant or waterproof?
- Which cloth shape are you thinking of?
- Where will the canvas hang?
- How big should the canvas be?
- Can you handle a standard size?
- Or does the canvas have to be custom made for you?
- Thinking of a cloth for the whole summer?
- Or do you want to be able to open and close it in the meantime?
- Can you attach the canvas to an existing wall or pergola?
- Is the wind blowing harder than average in your garden?
- Would you like to sit out of the wind on your terrace more often?
